It all began a year ago, right after the earthquake in Haiti. I ran into an illustrator friend, Rogé Girard, who confided that he was hoping to do his part for the devastated country by creating and selling a series of portraits of Haitian schoolchildren, with all profits going towards rebuilding Haiti.

There’s nothing like a couple of resolutions to start the New Year off right. I personally haven’t had much luck with those “Be more active” or “Lose weight” resolutions; so I’m changing my tune this year. I hereby pledge to be more mindful of the environment and show where my allegiances lie. I’m going to start by volunteering more, but also by raising awareness (through this site) about the amazing projects and innovative products that advocate these same values.

We can all recall when we happily went door to door selling chocolate in elementary school. We unabashedly harassed our family, our neighbours . . . and well, just about everyone who crossed our path. It was so easy—after all, who can resist chocolate, especially when it’s being hawked by such a cute little face?

Raising funds for bigger causes, however, is a whole new ball game. Trust me, I know—after spending a few weeks on street corners asking passers-by if they could spare a minute for the Red Cross, I know how painful and difficult it can be, for both the solicitors and / more

“My body’s nobody’s body but mine . . .” That’s how the song goes, as anyone who attended elementary school in Quebec in the eighties can attest.

But this post isn’t about the success story of the fabulous ditty that became an anthem for an entire generation—it’s about bodies. Bodies in all their splendour . . . and bodies as marketing vehicles.

The law states that we can do with our bodies as we please—with the exception of offing ourselves. Other than that, pretty much anything goes: we can pierce so many holes in our bodies that we put / more

To be precise, here are my thoughts on soccer as a humanitarian project. Frankly I’ve never been that big into soccer; I’m more of a hockey fan but when I was in Mali, RSD—or even ice rinks for that matter—were unheard of.
