The Social Media Revolution (Update)

By Olivier / May 14, 2010

In 2009, I mentioned Socialnomics and its president and founder Erik Qualman—also an author and lecturer. The company observes and studies phenomena linked to the emergence of social media.

Socialnomics already came up on two separate occasions in this blog, the first of which was back in August 2009 in an article about social media and the second in a short post about Twitter in December 2009. Well, Socialnomics is at it again with an updated version of its now-famous “Social Media Revolution” YouTube video.

I personally really like this type of presentation. The data and the way it’s presented are great for sparking discussions and piquing curiosity. While it shouldn’t be taken as gospel, it’ll certainly get the wheels in your head turning.

To finish off, I’d like to share a figure pulled from this video that dovetails with the article I wrote a little ways back:

78% of consumers trust peer recommendations… Only 14% trust advertisements

Is there still any doubt that the advertising model needs to be reinvented?
