Montréal, April 14, 2009 – espresso productions officially announced its decision to postpone Müvmédia’s fourth season until 2010 in order to develop other Web content and diversify its activities.

Müvmédia’s announcement coincided with the time it would normally start recruitment for the 2009 season.

“We’re taking the year off to expand our online journalism sector and English-speaking market. But it’s only temporary; we’ll be back and bigger than ever in 2010,” explained Olivier Coullerez, president of espresso productions and founder of Müvmédia.

Müvmédia is an Internet-TV competition-adventure concept in which eight young Canadian and European videographers travel a part of the world for three months, turning out one short film a week.

Current talks re funding for Web and TV projects in Canada played a large part in this decision. “There’s no ignoring the fact that the current state of funding for Web projects doesn’t favour the longevity of projects,” lamented Mr. Coullerez. “The sources of funding currently available focus on novelty and rarely support projects that have already received financing for more than a year. Moreover, the sponsors are demanding TV offshoots; our projects can only exist in Web format. If we want to survive on the Web and offer continuously updated and relevant content, if we want to be part of the birth of Quebec’s multimedia industry, we need to rethink our business models and try to eschew the television and film funding models that the industry and government seems to want to impose,” affirmed Mr. Coullerez. It bears noting that Müvmédia, Bell Fund recipients  in 2008, broadcast a TV show on TV5 Québec Canada last fall and on Télé-Québec in 2007, but that the first season of Müvmédia was broadcast solely on the Web.

Meanwhile, next June, espresso productions will launch a multimedia Web site focused on world travel and discovery, which will be fed in part by the international community through video and cellular broadcasting. The bilingual site will be a high-quality broadcasting platform for online video journalism, Web documentaries, travel stories and blogs: a benchmark for nomad and sedentary types alike that are eager to see the world through different eyes.
